DOT: Van rides/shuttle service to scheduled medical appointments at VA clinics and Veterans Medical CentersEligibility: Must be a veteran with an honorable discharge/eligible dependent residing in the county a minimum of 30 days, or transient (within regulations). Service Description: Service that provides answers to questions about veteran insurance and other benefits provided to veterans. Help with applying for assistance.AKA: noneBackground Checks: Performed on all employees.Comments:* Provide rides to the VA hospitals in Iowa City, Des Moines, Knoxville and the clinic in Waterloo. To ride the van, call the office (641-484-3160) at least 3 days in advance to be put on the calendar.* Provide information on getting Veteran designation on their drivers license and vehicle license plate.* Provide information on being buried (spouse be buried with partner for a fee) in a veterans cemetery at no charge.* If there is a need that not be fulfilled in this office, the service officer may ref the client to Iowa VA Trust Fund (a board at the state level reviews case by case for a decision on assistance).* Accreditation: Elizabeth Ledvina and Tiffany Richard are County Veteran Service Officers, which requires a national certification required for filing veterans claims.Services
